You need to patch the kernel to get that to work, at least with the
nv_sata controller it was just this small change:
/include/linux/libata.h: change 
#undef ATA_ENABLE_ATAPI
    to 
#define ATA_ENABLE_ATAPI

After that your SATA Plextor will show up.
