I'm running a production server with amd64-sarge on an Athlon 64 and
it's running great. I've only had some issues with some programs not
ported to 64-bits yet, but a 32-bits chroot environment solved that.

BTW, if you're hosting lots of downloads, why not use multiple
"lowerclass" servers behind an LVS server? When the limit is reached,
you just add some more webservers, update the LVS config and you're set.
