I think /lib/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 would be the best name, but
/lib/x86_64-linux/ld.so.2 would also make sense. The reason for
staying with the former would be consistency in what we already have,
we can't get rid of (i386's) /lib/ld-linux.so.2 for a long, long
time.
The i386 ld-linux.so.2 ought to be renamed to /lib/ld-linux-i386.so.2
with the old name as a compat symlink. On the other side, I am not
sure I want to fight all those windmills (and getting those changes
past both debian-glibc and at some point glibc's and gcc's upstream
would suck a lot), so doing this change might just be silly.

True, but those changes are easy to do. It's just a matter of
policy.
