Done. I added: 
	sym85c8xx="debug:0x80"

To the boot line in aboot. and setup the default to auto-boot dka0 -fl 0

That takes care of the problems with 2.6.8-1-generic. More if you need
it. 2.4.27-1-generic is still broke.
