Ummmm.... I'm writing this email in KMail (2 windows), browsing the web with
Konqueror (3 windows), writing some code in Emacs (2 windows, 10 files open),
and running a few Konsole sessions (3 windows), all under KDE 3.x on a
Pentium 133 running in 1024x768x16 right now.

The machine is quite responsive, as much as a (fresh) install of Win98 on the
same machine. It's averaging about 65% idle as I type this email (84.5% if I
stop) with top open. So I kind of doubt it's the 233MHz part that is causing
your problems (unless you have all the eye candy turned on and are using
Mozilla).

More likely the amount of memory you have (my 133 does have 128MB of RAM). I
also used to use KDE on a Pentium 100 with 32MB of RAM. That was pushing
things, however, and it stopped working all together once I upgraded it to
release 3.x. *grin*

Later -T

PS: I'm using the KDE 2 Window decoration. I haven't actually tried it with
the default Keramik. Maybe that makes a big difference? Don't use Mozilla.
If you also happen to have a huge amount of swap space, that can be bad news.
Certainly don't exceed the amount of RAM you have.
