If you have limited memory and machine is 21064 CPU, then remove gdm or xdm with: #apt-get remove gdm ( xdm) login will now be 'text' mode allowing the use of: $xinit -> select your widowmanager, icewm is great and very thin, install with #apt-get install icewm $xinit, yields xterm, $icewm, starts icewm. or any other windowmanager..ie..$wmaker etc. -Mel
