I believe the adapter is a QLogic ISP-1040, good to 40MB/sec, ie Ultra Wide. But it will only be as good as the disks, so if you have 20MB/sec drives, that's your limit.
It's more likely to be a ISP-1020 (20 MB/sec) - my 500au is, but I do think it depends on when the box was made. There is a heap of info at http://www.compaq.com/products/quickspecs/soc_archives/80136.html on the various configs as shipped.
