I wouldn't go near 2.4.3 on an alpha.  I have seen some very very awful 
things going on with it. If you can get the ^**(%! to compile it will
probably crash anyway.

I heard a lot of other horror stories about it too.  Still YMMV, you
might want to try the numa-2 patch which seemed to help the compile.

Funny thing is I get double the bogomips if I got from 2.2.19->2.4.3
wierdness.  I'd love to get a 2.4.x going as it has the udma and raid
patches. Of course going double the speed at the same time your ide,
scsi and ethernet devices go nuts is not very useful.

I have heard the ac patches may be better.
