ATA DISK: invalid geometry

Hi,

I am running Debian 2.2R2 on XP1000. I added a new IBM ATA 30GB
disk and I have a problem with linux.

The default kernel 2.2.18pre21 and freshly baked 2.4.0 both have the
same problem.

What is wrong? how to go about fixing this? Does anyone in the list
have had this problem before?
