gnome dependancies and X still broken

Hello all,

I still am unable to fix those broken gnome dependancies and X.

X goes to vt7 like usual on boot, but then just sits there. Swiching to
vt2 and typing 'startx' does the same thing. Switching back to vt2 shows
me (This is what fit on the screen):

(using VT number 7)

XF86Config: /etc/X11/XF86Config
(**) stands for supplied, (--) stands for probed/default values
(**) XKB: keymap: "xfree86(us)" (overrides other XKB sttings)
(**) Mouse: type: PS/2, device: /dev/mouse, buttons: 3
(**) SVGA: Graphics device ID: "MyVideoCard"
(**) SVGA: Monitor ID: "MyMonitor"
(--) SVGA: Mode "1600x1200" needs hsync freq of 105.77 kHz. Deleted.
(--) SVGA: Mode "1280x1040" needs hsync freq of 107.16 kHz. Deleted.
(--) SVGA: Mode "1800x1440" needs nsync freq of 96.15 kHz. Deleted.
(--) SVGA: Mode "1800x1440" needs hsync freq of 104.52 kHz. Deleted.
(**) FontPath set to
"/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc/,/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/:unscaled,/usr/X11R6/lib/X11fonts/100dpi/:unscaled,/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/,/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi/"
system type: Avanti
system vari: 0
cpu model: EV4
ioperm: turn_on 1 io.base 0
ioperm: mmap of len 0x200000 returned 0x200006a8000
ioperm: mprotect returned 0
X: error in loading shared libraries: X: undefined symbol: __syscall
X connection to :0.0 broken (explict kill or server shutdown).

And that's all she wrote... The same XF86Config worked with slink.

BTW, apt-get still wont upgrade to the potato version of X. Everything in
my sources.list points to the correct "unstable" directories.

Any ideas?

TIA,

Ron
