NFS mounted /var/spool problem

Hello folks,
I seem to have a problem with a NFS-mounted /var/spool directory
stemming from lpd... it can't seem to acquire locks..
Any ideas?

Is this NFS configuration related?

BTW, This is a Alphaserver 2100 4/275 (sable) on Debian 2.1 (slink).
