There's a driver for that kind of HW in 2.6, I think. I didn't look at it
in any detail, just found it by grep -r.

Right. As Petr said, the only other constraint is that we need to use 8
bit ISA bus access to the card, with no interrupts (except in case someone
fudges the ISA interrupt line to generate a MFP serial interrupt). The ROM
port ISA access should be possible to write generic enough to convert any
old ISA ethernet driver to use it.
