gpm is a problem, but if I can get to a prompt I can run gpm -k. I don't
think this is the problem with the password rtn though. (getty- I think is
the name)

Yes and thankyou. I did not have to remove by hand, but I did have to
remove it. Now when I boot up the first VT freezes, but I can go into the
second VT and start X using xinit. Startx script, starts X, but then kills
X. Soimething wrong with my script I guess.
I tried to start gnome-wm and it says WindowMaker can't find libwraster.so.1
so it could not start. any ideas there?
Also will amiwm work under debian? if I find a linux program(like amiwm)
that I want to use under debian does it always have to recompiled?
