I had the same problem on my Atari Hades and got the same message. I 
have a program called Ataboot which lets me boot up Linux right from 
the desktop. I know the Amiga has such a program and I am sure you do do.
I just added the line: rescue root=/dev/sda3. The Linux/kernel/base 
booted right up from my 3 partition on my SCSI Jaz drive.
