Upgrade from 2.0.36 to 2.2

Hello,
I'd like to upgrade my system from 2.0.36 to 2.2, but I am not sure on
how this has to be done.
Can I ask your help: what are the steps I need to follow?
What do I have to do?
It seems to me that all I have to do is get the
"modules-2.2.6-19990629.tar.gz" file and untar it from the root
directory and then get the "vmlinux-2.2.6-19990629cvs.gz", unzip it into
/boot directory and make /vmlinuz
file link to it.
Is it right?
