Re: Call for bids for DebConf24

Very few countries are perfect for DebConf. Brazil had/has major issues
with transphobia, homophobia, etc. Parts of India are very nationalist
and downright dangerous for women. I live in the United States and while
I would love a(nother) DebConf here, I very much understand the many
people who would be uncomfortable coming to my country. Holding a
DebConf in Israel was, to begin with, fairly divisive and there are
Debian contributors (and DebConf participants) who were uncomfortable
with attending. Due to the global scale of feelings about what is
happening in Israel and Palestine right now, I suspect that holding an
event there will probably not be possible for at least several years
without completely fracturing the community.

I understand that this message may lead to a heated conversation. I
apologize for that, and do not intend on commenting further. If you want
to be mad about it, please contact me directly and keep it off the list.

Cheers,
Molly
