[snip some ideas about crowfunding]

Hi everybody,

I wasn't very specific in my first email about the crowdfunding on purpose.
I wanted to see if somebody had any well argumented strong opposition
against that or some good idea about how to use crowdsourcing in a different
way.

Better than start discussing now what platforms are better and what not,
I would like to start researching all the possibilities and collecting all
the ideas in the wiki [1]. And later we can have a defined proposal in the
list.

Gathering this information will take some time, specially because I will be
unavailable in the next 3 weeks. I don't think we should launch this before
January or so, when we have more details about debconf, a website, etc.
If you are interested in this, please join me!

For some comments I got in the list and off-list:
a) I don't think we should do an 'adopt a developer' campaign. This would mean
having to name developers and I think most of the people won't be confortable
with this. Also it would mean we have to choose which developers are 'better'
to be funded than others.
b) My idea is not to do a ccrowdfunding in the sense we have to reach a
certain amount to be successful. I would like more going for "fund a developer
will cost 600 EUR [2], with the money so far we will fund 2.3 developers",
run that for 3 months and wait for the best.

[1] something like http://wiki.debconf.org/wiki/DebConf13/CrowdfundingNotes
[2] figured amount for food + lodging for one week. I have not idea yet how much
will cost this year.

Does somebody else have any other ideas besides the crowdfunding and the
t-shirt ideas?

Ana
