You can call it DebConf child-care if you wish, just not restrict it to that. I see no point in discussing a mere naming issue. > I am glad we are talking about this as early as we are, allowing us > to align our expectations. I don't know what the expectations were, in the first place ;). > However, as we're now talking about a Teckids side track to DebConf > open to DebConf kids, not an event primarily organised for DebConf > kids, I think we'll better approach this from an angle of creating > interest and getting young people involved in Debian from our side. I think you got me wrong there. Of course, the proejct *shall* be an event primarily organised for DebConf kids, but, *if* there aren't too many DebConf kids, *then* I ask you to not drop the project, but instead open it up to the public. This way, both sides benefit, because the *few* DebConf kids get the chance to join the workshops *even though* they are only few, *and* other young people can be attracted to Debian. Teckids will sign an agreement discharging DebConf from all liabilities concerning both DebConf childcare *and* public attendance, in order to have clear responsibilities, which is a benefit for parents because they have single, named people from a credited organisation looking after their child and being responsible, not some random hacker fom Debian (don't get me wrong on that; I like Debian hackers, but read it as being said by a cautious parent ;)). All of that does not change anything about the project being a DebConf childcare project - only opened up *additionally* to the public, as tiem and space allows, and with clear responsibilities. Again, noone ever said, or wanted to say, that the project is *not* intended to be primarily DebConf childcare. > Could you give me a sentence or two helping me to pitch the idea to > the team? Why would a Teckids workshop benefit DebConf and how could > it help attract young people to our project? I do hope that you [as in, someone at DebConf] had an idea of how a Teckdis workshop would benefit DebConf before you asked us to run one; but in any case, the benefits are mentioned above. As to the second part, search udd and/or upstream bug trackers for @teckids.org, @leibniz-remscheid.de, @naturalnet.de or any of the mercurius domains and you will see quite a few young people from Teckids projects having contributed ;). But, still, this is not relevant for the discussion as, gain, noone ever said that our focus is not DebConf childcare. -nik -- Dominik George (1.
