T-mobile definitely has pay-as-you-go plans that will work fine for
this.
Getting data on a US pay-as-you-go plan can be a bit tricky.
A t-mobile store ought to be able to sell you a SIM card for $10;
Walmart may have them cheaper.
You are unlikely to find a SIM card in a US airport.
It just doesn't work that way here for reasons I don't fully
understand. Possibly several of the major carriers don't use SIMs in
their phones, possibly for a long time there were multiple technologies
in play and you couldn't guarantee that a SIm would be useful on a given
phone. Then Apple made things worse by using phones that did in fact
have SIMs but that didn't treat them as user accessible parts.
