Correct, it must be a Linux device driver bug.
BTW: it still may be the well known bug with PATA that causes some commands to
fail with "illegal field in cdb".

Thank you for the test, if it works on win32, it cannot be a drive firmware bug
that may need special care and a workaround in cdrecord.
There is no need to run a Solaris test.
