I've now installed the mentioned package using apt from your repo.
The reboot was successful, however I started experiencing more frequent
freezes so I reverted back to using vesa in xorg.conf.
The following programs froze the machine completely:
glxgears
GDM - at login screen
init - at "Starting GNOME Display Manager: gdm"
Synaptic
SuperTuxKart
