With i810 1.7.4 xrandr says:

arjan@nebula:~$ xrandr -v
Server reports RandR version 1.2
arjan@nebula:~$ xrandr -q --verbose
 SZ: Pixels Physical Refresh
*0 1024 x 768 ( 271mm x 203mm ) *60
Current rotation - normal
Current reflection - none
Rotations possible - normal left inverted right
Reflections possible - none
Setting size to 0, rotation to normal
Setting reflection on neither axis

Also the Xorg.0.log file seems to suggests that Xorg thinks something is
attached to the VGA out:

arjan@nebula:~$ egrep "attached|connected" Xorg.0.log-intel-2.0.0

With i810 1.7.4 Xorg does detect that nothing is attached:

Both Xorg logs are attached
