I have seen the exact same problem yesterday while an external screen
was plugged. Today, with only the internal panel, the problem does not
occur, gnome-screensaver appears fine. So I was wondering whether it
could be related to xrandr 1.2 multiple heads. Do you have an external
display or something like that?
