well,
hpd:/home/trc# dpkg --force-confmiss -i
/var/cache/apt/archives/xserver-xorg_6.8.2.dfsg.1-10_i386.deb
(Reading database ... 232159 files and directories currently installed.)
Preparing to replace xserver-xorg 6.8.2.dfsg.1-10 (using
.../xserver-xorg_6.8.2.dfsg.1-10_i386.deb) ...
Unpacking replacement xserver-xorg ...
Setting up xserver-xorg (6.8.2.dfsg.1-10) ...
System startup links for /etc/init.d/xserver-xorg already exist.
may be this is aprt of the problem, that only the existence of the link
is checked, but not if the file pointed at exists at all...
I am going to remove the symlink and see what happens... worse can't
get than it already is.
