The above comment about being "passive aggressive and manipulative" is
an example of that.  However much certain cultural behaviours may seem
irritating or inappropriate (when compared with ones own) ...

 Erinn is not alone.  This is not solely an American
perception, rather a Western one.  And it is stronger
among men, and I'd suspect even stronger among geeks.
The high prevalence of Asperger's and similar oddities
among geeks adds to it, too.

 The question of values and adjectives is more or less
beside the point.  The current majority of the Debian
project are westerners, and mostly men.  They will
not put very much effort into understanding social subtleties that are very different from the ones they
are used to.  Suggesting that they should do so won't
help, sorry.
