I think rather it indicates that fully 'secure' email is difficult, but then there is no need for most mailing lists to be absolutely secure.
These problems do not occur when communication is direct, they're unique to forwarding and mailing lists.
There are enough possible twiddles that people can generally solve any specific issues on a list. So it rather suggests to me that if you have an email account set up to be fully secure for whatever reason, then you shouldn't use that for mailing lists but instead use an accountyou're happier to discard if necessary.
Participation on a mailing list does not make your account less secure, but the mail you receive from the list cannot be verified to the same extent as the mail you receive directly.
These issues also make it harder for new mailing lists to be created, e.g. if I were to create a new list identical to this one in setup, but on a different domain and IP, I don't think I'd be able to deliver mail to big mail providers at all.
With that caveat, I think mailing lists are still very useful.
I agree, I wouldn't be here otherwise! Please don't interpret this as me being against mailing lists, my intention is to highlight some of their problems and hopefully be corrected if I'm wrong on any accounts.
