scanimage prints scanner web interface to stdout

I'm trying to setup an HP OfficeJet Pro 8022 all-in-one printer and scanner. I noticed that when the device is available in my LAN, most of the scanimage commands I run output binary stuff mixed to their regular output (but work as expected if the device is not available). For example, scanimage without arguments produces the attached output. Since file identifies it as gzip compressed data, I gunzipped it and discovered it is an HTML page asking to enable Javascript in my browser. The page matches the one I receive if I visit the device web interface with Javascript disabled - so it looks like scanimage outputs to stdout the web interface of the device.
Why does it happen? And how can I prevent it?
