provided the specifications for your laptop. They conflict with the above
2560x1080 commands, at 1440x900. Are you using this laptop with 2 displays? With
only an external display? My reading of this thread before now suggests use only
of the laptop's 1440x900 display, and that's what my previous comments and
suggestions were directed to.

Neither shortcoming exists when you locate xrandr commands in a script that X
executes before any user session starts. On Debian for me this is the location:
/etc/X11/Xsession.d/
