I also use a Canon wireless printer/scanner, the PIXMA MG3500, and 
installed it from cups.  Works great.  Scanning is a little more 
problematic, but I was able to get it to work without much trouble. I 
did not need any additional drivers for it to work, cups took care of it 
without a hitch.
