No, but root under btrfs without extra /boot works.
Here is my simplified /etc/fstab:
# / was on /dev/sda3 during installation
/dev/sda3 / btrfs noatime,autodefrag,compress-force=lzo,subvol=@ 0 0
/dev/sda3 /home btrfs noatime,autodefrag,compress-force=lzo,subvol=@home 0 0
# swap
/dev/sda2 none swap sw 0 0
So, both / & /home are under btrfs subvolumes and everything works.
And according to https://wiki.debian.org/FileSystem XFS should be
capable to work as root FS.
