O boy!
music is such a subjective topic which is hard to quantify.
Usually soundcards expect the information to be presented as PCM.
That is a digital representation of the analog sound information.
However your music files are most likely MP3 or some other format. The
conversion of these file formats to PCM is done in sofware. MP3 specially
still has some patent issues which means that most likely the conversion in
free software is different than in propietary software.
Another possibility is that the windows software automatically applies a
"profile" during the conversion based on the type of music (equalizer
functionality). That can lead to the perception this music is "more
dynamic".
I would say you should try an equalizer on linux and see if you can shape
your music output more to your liking.
