I don't know how to entirely blank the X11 server. Removing my
custom .Xresources makes the output of xrdb -query almost empty but it
does not fix the issue.
The output of xrdb -query after removing my custom .Xresources is:
*customization: -color
Xpdf*fileFilterStyle: filter_hidden_files
