It also makes more difficult the task "NIC out of order, just plug a
spare one and reboot". Since you have no predictability of the name.

Those new names are NOT more predictable than ther former ones, indded
they are less, because with same commercial denomination of NIC you
can get different chipset. Only for those who solder their nic and
choose the chip is the name predictable.
