Back in the day *in Debian* user just did not install a Display Manager
unless it was needed. Or removed the thing if it was no longer needed.

In today's Debian they carefully preserved the liberty of not
installing any Display Manager (or removing it).

If Display Manager was installed it was not sufficient to change a
runlevel (disregarding single-user mode) to disable Display Manager, as
it was controlled by init script. The only thing that changed today (as
of Debian 8) is that one needs to use 'systemctl' to disable Display
Manager instead of 'service'.

So, what's exactly was changed? Nothing.
