It is the same thing.  Six of one or a half dozen of the other.  Use
whichever one you prefer.  I prefer sending SIGHUP.  Among other
things it is a shell builtin and no external commands needed.
  man init
  ..
  SIGNALS
       Init reacts to several signals:
       SIGHUP
            Has the same effect as telinit q.
I am sure that no matter which I prefer there would be someone who
would prefer and validly suggest the other.  :-) :-)
