Third time lucky; I fired up alsamixer (I don't usually use it) and
found that I had to increase the width of the console window to view all
the mixer controls. I have a CD slider. Even at full screen width, if
I pressed F5, I found I had to use the arrow keys to access some of the
controls, as they were still out of view.
