AFAIK Microsoft is still pre-alpha software. SICR
I'm using Ubuntu, you should avoid Quantal, but go with Precise. I can't
help regarding to multi-boot Windows and Linux, but reconsider to run XP
in Virtual Box on Linux, that's what I do.
You perhaps get better support for Windows by Microsoft and for Ubuntu
chose one of the Ubuntu mailing lists. If you use Ubuntu, you can get a
lot of help on this list too, but it's better to join an Ubuntu mailing
list.
