So I removed both..(I use VLC but not mplayer) and we'll see what happens. But it seems other stuff is also looking for the library...time will tell :)
Strange the bug has been hanging around so long with little or nothing being done about it.

has been hanging around almost as long and no one has fixed it either despite much conversation about it on the mozilla bug base.
