Sweet!  Thanks for that pointer.  The file, ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs,
contained the correct configuration.  I'm now on LXDE but
desktop-iconless again.

You are a competent and capable chameleon; a fine representation of
the whole Anoli genera, particularly your Iguanid family.  ;-]
