Hi,

After playing with gnome3 for about an hour, I got it to where it dies
immediately upon startup with a windoz-like screen that says in effect
"something is wrong - log out".

And kern.log has this:
Oct 19 12:45:55 HDBB kernel: [ 9535.415881] gnome-settings-[18884]:
segfault at 7f02290df4f0 ip 00007f02290df4f0 sp 00007ff$
Oct 19 12:46:21 HDBB kernel: [ 9561.971839] gnome-settings-[22307]:
segfault at 7f523b7484f0 ip 00007f523b7484f0 sp 00007ff$

//snip//

As you can see I tried it a few times :-)
Is that gnome-settings-daemon that is dying? I did not see this
partucular bug. Running Sid.
I tried rebooting but the segfault is solid - only gnome-fallback
"works", if you can call it working...

Common problem. I and others have had it. I have just about given up on Gnome3...can't wait for it to be sorted out. But I am sure if you hang in for a while it will be fine.

The segfault disappeared, but the oops screen to log out has not. So for a while gnome in Sid is unusable.
