Unless you're using partitioned mdraid, I'm not sure what benefit
there might be from favoring Wheezy's grub over Squeeze's - but using
Wheezy's shouldn't be a problem.

I can't think of any way other than editing "/etc/grub.d/30_os-prober"
not to detect more than x kernels on each "/boot".

I once googled to a grub-devel post in which someone requested from
the grub developers that they re-instate grub1's "howmany" variable
but they weren't interested (IIRC, I'm not sure that they really
understood what was being requested).
