And I have run mysql since the mid 90's and have never had any problem
with it until the Squeeze release.  I guess you missed that post.

I guess you did not read my OP.  I run Stable, Wheezy and Sid.  Mysql
has a problem with the mysql-server-5.1 package on all 3.
