Your best bet is trying with a complete and fresh Evolution profile and 
then start the migration process manually, that is, do not use the backup 
wizard (or do not import calendars in the first stage, try with just the 
e-mails and if all goes well you can proceed to manually export/import 
the calendards).

Yep, mixing data from different versions can lead to unexpected results. 
While it does not have to, it can happen.

The calendar extension for Icedove is named "iceowl-extension" but if you 
like Evo I would try first to get it working.
