Half an hour is much time. 

Are you sure the crash comes from Acrobat Reader? You can launch Acrobat 
Reader at command line to look for any output error. Also, the crash 
could be just X, not the whole system. Can you login via ssh when the 
system seems to be frozen?

Look at Xorg log (/var/log/xorg.0.log).

Acrobat Reader is not in the list of my favorite programs. I prefer 
Evince or Okular in a 1000:1 ratio: they are faster, lighter and safer
