Hi all,

I would like to do automate two related tasks on my debian box (stable), preferably without changing my window manager (because I am happy with it and would prefer a simple solution if available).

You don't actually mention which WM/DE that you use... GNOME probably?

Indeed I am using gnome. I did not mention which WM because I don't know how to query for this information! Also I don't know what means "DE" but I hope I answered your question.

GNOME is a DE (Desktop Environment). It's standard WM is Metacity (rhymes with mendacity and audacity).
