Could they be a bit sensitive, remembering the Debian ssl "patch"? Or was that in the wrong time span?

Go hang around the FSF for a while if you want to see some _real_
zealotry.

There is a quote, which I can't find now, which approximately says, "Excess in defense of liberty is not excess." Said by a Republican, definitely not a fellow traveler of RMS.
