IDE CD-DVD Writer won't write

Hi,
I have two CD-DVD writers on this machine. It is equipped with a ASUS
P5 which supports IDE and SATA. One of these CD-DVD writers is
connected through IDE.
Here is the output of `lshw' for the problematic CD-DVD writer:
# lshw | grep ND-2500A
*-cdrom:0
description: DVD writer
product: DVD_RW ND-2500A
vendor: _NEC
physical id: 0.0.0
bus info: scsi@0:0.0.0
logical name: /dev/cdrom
logical name: /dev/cdrw
logical name: /dev/dvd
logical name: /dev/dvdrw
logical name: /dev/scd0
logical name: /dev/sr0
version: 1.06
serial: [_NEC DVD_RW ND-2500A 1.0603121900
capabilities: removable audio cd-r cd-rw dvd dvd-r
configuration: ansiversion=5 status=nodisc
The other CD-DVD writer works like a charm, but this one does not,
whatever the interface. I had mainly tried with GNOME's built-in's
burning tool, but it explains me that I should try burning the CD/DVD
at a lower speed. I tried, but even in 1x speed (!) it still fails
after ~2 sec of burning.
Any idea?
Thanks.
