FWIIW, the install-grub2-at-update-of-Squeeze,
test-boot-with-chainloading and upgrade-from-grub-legacy
process was like clockwork on my old IBM NetVista.
Some of the comments in /boot/grub/grub.cfg are odd.
The second line is "# DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE"
whereas the second to last sentence is "Simply type the
# menu entries you want to add after this comment."
The last sentence is "Be careful not to change
# the 'exec tail' line above." but no "exec" is apparent.
