Like has been mentioned: (a) decide what you want your system to do for you and then (b) make it happen. As you learn about (a) what you want and work on (b) making it happen, you will learn lots about Debian, and about Linux. Remember also that there is little that you can not do with Debian; freedom is an important concept here (hopefully I can speak for more than myself in that respect).
