There are settings for adjusting orientation during post-scan cleanup.
But if you can't get usable scans at all, you might try just scanning a
picture or something using SANE and seeing if you still have problems.
It could very well be a driver or hardware problem, rather that a
problem with gscan2pdf itself.
If it's a driver problem, you need to report it to the driver people. If
it's a hardware problem, call HP.
